More exciting than paint, less expensive than wallpaper!
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Textured Solutions offers unique new alternatives in designer wall coverings. Textured Solutions Cotton based wallcoverings are an exciting alternative to paint or wallpaper for interior decorating or renovating! Develop with textile materials to produce rich and elegant decorating ideas. Colors vary from glistening to subtle neutrals. You may customize by mixing two or more Texture Solution styles to create your own one of a kind style.
Be sure to follow ALL surface preparation instructions.
COVERAGE: WHEN PROPERLY MIXED AND APPLIED, EACH BAG WILL COVER A MINIMUM OF 35 – 40 SQUARE FEET. THIS ESTIMATED FOOTAGE IS FOR EVEN SURFACES WITH NO DEFECTS.
NOTE: Defects will decrease your square footage.
BHINT: Fill in defects with Shrink Proof Joint Compound prior to priming. Allow to cure, then prime surface with TWO COATS of B-I-N PRIMER SEALER Stain Killer (Product Number 901, Red & White Can), TO PREVENT SURFACE BLEEDING. THIS IS ESSENTIAL!
1. ROLLER and/or TROWEL: Using your plastic trowel, place some of the Textured Solution mixture on the wall. Then roll the mixture using your Textured Solutions roller applicator. Start roller cover in the middle of mixture and roll outward. Do not press hard at first. After first couple strokes, gradually add more pressure until you get a feel for how much pressure you can and cannot use. Spread the mixture as this as possible (paper this is ideal), while still hiding the surface. If looking for acoustical value, apply product thicker. Note: the thicker the product is applied, the least amount of square footage you will achieve.
B Roller marks generally tell you that the
Textured Solutions is applied too thick and can be rolled thinner. If thickness is of no concern, get rid of roller marks by using as few strokes as possible, while applying very light pressure on the roller applicator. If the mixture clings to the roller, rinse the roller cover in warm water, blot off excess water with a clean/dry towel and proceed with application. Note: larger areas may require cleaning of roller cover more often.
You may also trowel Textured Solutions onto surfaces. Please note: Troweling Textured Solutions is not like troweling on drywall mud or joint compound.
1. To apply Textured Solutions in tight spots or corners, use various size plastic trowels, plastic putty knife, or your finger.
ON OUTSIDE CORNERS:
a. Roll material past the corner and continue on adjacent wall, rolling over the corner lightly.
b. If adjacent wall is not to be covered with Textured Solutions, roll material past the corner, wait until material dries, and cut off excess Textured Solutions with sharp utility knife.
ON INSIDE CORNERS:
a. Roll material into corner by allowing Textured Solutions to squeeze from the side of the roller.
b. When applying a different color of Textured Solutions to adjacent wall, apply darkest color first and wait for it to dry.
c. If adjacent wall is not to be covered with
Textured Solutions obtain a straight corner by using a Trowel; holding the straight edge against the uncovered surface, pull back to the surface covered with Textured Solutions, then smooth lightly. Note: lifting the Trowel off the Textured Solutions will give you a wispy effect or stucco feel to the product. Instead, hold the tool at a 45-degree angle to the corner and pull down, allowing the trowel to ride the corner.
2. You do not have to rush the application. The mixture will stay fresh and moist in the plastic tub for many hours. To store the mixture overnight, just cover with a light colored, damp cloth. If you cannot return to finish the application, you may cover the tub with a light colored, damp cloth and place in the refrigerator, up to 7 days. If the mixture becomes too thick to roll easily, add a little more water. For Textured Solutions that has been mixed for longer than 7 days, double bag in zip-lock bags and store product in freezer indefinitely. Note: after Textured Solutions has been refrigerated or frozen, you MUST warm the material to room temperature prior to use. The warmer the product, the easier it will roll.
3. Allow product to dry for 36 – 48 hours. Note: larger rooms will have a slow drying time, as will areas with high humidity’s. To dry wall surface faster, turn up heat and/or turn on fans. Initially, as the Textured Solutions will appear to be darker than the color you selected. As the walls dry, the color will appear to be uneven. After the walls are completely dry, the color will be the same color as you selected.
4. If you spot an area that you missed, simply moisten the area, apply a little leftover Textured Solutions, and blend and feather the edges.
CLEAN UP
1. Clean up of large pieces/clumps of Textured Solutions on woodwork, trim, ceiling may be done after application. Little fibers/glitter should be cleaned up after the product has dried.
2. Clean tools up easily in water.
HELPFUL HINTS
B Before Mixing product, reserve some dry Textured Solutions for future repairs, instead of having to store wet mixture in your freezer. If dry Textured Solutions is not stored, reserve some west mixture in freezer for repairs.
B Apply Textured Solutions at any temperature above 50 degree Fahrenheit
B The more defects the Textured Solutions has to fill, the least amount of square footage you will achieve. To achieve maximum square footage, fill grooves or defects with Shrink Proof Joint Compound, and allow to cure. Then follow application instructions.
B If you unexpectedly have to stop applying Textured Solutions or you run out of Textured Solutions, finish your surface to corner or edge. Do not stop in the middle of your wall. This make starting up less time consuming.
When resuming your installation, saturate the last 12” of Textured Solutions, where you left off, back to the original consistency. Then begin applying your new mixture (left over and new mixture). If you see a seam, you have not added enough water to the area you left off at.
B For added protection, you may spray your dry, finished walls with a fabric protector to further enhance Textured Solutions own stain resistance. Example: Scotch Guard.
B If you’re interested in a clear protector for sealing our products, we recommend using: Clear Protector by Duramax. The above sealers are sold in the following shines: Flat: looks like original Textured Solutions; Satin: slight shine to Textured Solutions: Gloss: makes Textured Solutions look like plastic. The repairability and re-usability features will be lost.
B To clean, lightly mist slightly soiled areas with a mild, nonabrasive (non-colored) detergent and wipe with a damp cloth. You can even vacuum it clean. If mud that is wet gets on Textured Solutions, wait until mud is dry before you try to clean. DO NOT USE PRODUCTS WITH BLEACH, they will strip color.
B If you walls get nicked or scarred or if an area becomes extremely dirty, saturate the damaged area with water until Textured Solutions is back to its original consistency. When the Textured Solutions is pliable and the material moves with your finger, simply scrape it off.
In small areas: you can then blend Textured Solutions from the surrounding area into the scarred area.
For larger areas, saturate surrounding area until material softens. Apply leftover Textured Solutions, blending and feathering the edges to avoid a patched look
B To customize, you may mix two or more Textured Solutions styles together, or add your own thead, yarn, or glitter to the mixture and then allow items to set the recommended time. B Apply wallpaper and wallpaper borders after the primer/sealer and before applying Textured Solutions
